Concord, NH- The law enforcement community is mourning the loss of Officer Elijah Garretson, who was killed in the line of duty following an officer-involved shooting on January 10, 2026. Garretson grew up in New Hampshire, graduated from Memorial High School in Manchester in 2016 and served in the US Army. He leaves behind a wife and 5 year old daughter.

According to department officials, the Texas Rangers have been requested to lead an independent investigation into the incident. Preliminary information indicates that the shooting resulted in the on-duty death of Officer Garretson. The suspect involved in the incident was later located, and after a lengthy negotiation attempt with authorities, the suspect took his own life.

Officials described the loss as devastating for both the department and the broader law enforcement family. “As we begin to navigate this incredibly difficult time, we ask for understanding and patience as our department, Officer Garretson’s family, and our law enforcement family grieve this tremendous loss,” the department said in a statement.

Funeral arrangements and opportunities for public remembrance are expected to be announced once confirmed by the family and department officials.

The Live Free Press sends our sincere condolences to Officer Garretson’s family, loved ones and friends.
